Newswomen’s Club Presents the 2024 Front Page Award Winners

Throughout 2024, New York-area newswomen reported on some of the year’s most pressing issues, including climate change, women’s health, mental health, gun violence, immigration and the systemic issues facing our communities. This was never more evident than in the work of those who are recipients of the 2024 Front Page Awards. The work honored this year spans all beats, and all mediums — from investigations into sex trafficking, the state of the art market, the explosive allegations of sexual harassment in real estate, bad air quality in Utah and the difficulties of reentering the job market after being a victim of gun violence.

The 87th annual Front Page Awards pay tribute to these exceptional newswomen at local, regional and national outlets across the New York metropolitan area. The full list of winners can be seen here. The gala event to honor winners will be held at the New York Athletic Club on Feb. 4, 2025.

Those wishing to attend the event can purchase tickets here. Those interested in sponsorship opportunities or purchasing a table of 10 should contact treasurer Sasha Padbidri at newswomen@newswomensclubnewyork.com.

Author Talk: Becky Libourel Diamond

The American Gilded Age (1868 to 1900) and its extreme extravagance continue to be a source of wonder and fascination, particularly for foodies. The style and excessiveness of this era has ties to modern popular culture through books, films, and television shows, including the Julian Fellowes TV series The Gilded Age on HBO.

Newswomen’s Club of New York members joined Becky Libourel Diamond as she discussed foods and stories from the Gilded Age as featured in her new book The Gilded Age Cookbook.

Newswomen’s Club Announces 2023 Front Page Award Winners

In a year where news developed at a breakneck speed, New York City's newswomen strove to highlight the human stories behind the headlines. They succeeded in doing so, sharing the stories of the people affected by war, migration crises, gun violence and climate change. Newswomen investigated the consequences of cuts and consolidations to the city's healthcare systems, exposed the cracks New York's school children are falling through and continued the ongoing fight against misinformation.

The Front Page Awards will be presented on Feb. 6, 2024. Those wishing to attend the event, can purchase tickets to the event here.

Newswoman Amy Padnani Speaks to Club Members about Her Book

Newswomen's Club member Amy Padnani spoke fellow Newswomen earlier this month about her  book, "Overlooked," based on the award-winning series of obituaries of remarkable women, people of color and others in history who never received a New York Times obit. Padnani signed copies of her work for attendees and delved into her research, assigning and editing processes. Emily Palmer, a senior crime writer at PEOPLE and a contributor to the series, moderated the lively discussion, held at the Newswomen's office in the National Arts Club. Thank you to Padnani and Palmer for sharing their insights - and to all who attended!

2022 Front Page Awards Gala Celebration: A Salute to the Winners

The Front Page Awards, held on Jan. 26, 2023, paid tribute to exceptional newswomen at local, regional, and national outlets across the New York metropolitan area. The event continued a tradition established 85 years ago when the New York Newspaper Woman’s Club (as The Newswomen’s Club of New York was then called) recognized women journalists whose bylined stories appeared on the front page, a rare occurrence for women in that era. Kudos to all the winners! (Photos by Brittainy Newman.)

Congratulations to our 2022 Front Page Awards winners!

In a year that saw international conflict, global inflation and supply chain issues, the winter Olympics in Beijing and a winding down of the pandemic - stellar journalism has followed.

Journalism that comforts the afflicted, and holds the mighty accountable. Stories that speak truth to power. Work that illuminates the world and helps make sense of it to readers, listeners, and viewers.
